About us:
At Differential Bio, we are pioneering the future of biotechnology through the power of lab automation and digital modeling. As a digital biology challenger, we focus on optimizing the end-to-end fermentation performance through media and bioprocess improvements, particularly in the realm of probiotics. Our cutting-edge Virtual Scale-up Platform empowers us to revolutionize traditional lab work, enabling more sustainable and economically viable bio-based production in the long run.
Role summary:
Part of what we’re doing at Differential is building virtual microbial models by leveraging a foundational understanding of the host, and partial understanding of a mutant, backed by phenotypic, high-throughput screening data. As part of our interdisciplinary core team, you will interact directly with fermentation-, bioinformatics- and lab automation scientists to develop our in-house metabolic engineering pipeline. This position requires in-depth knowledge about metabolic engineering, from DBTL screening to protein expression applications. The ideal candidate is proficient in using molecular biology, metabolic pathway engineering, and modern bioinformatics approaches to construct strains and apply their knowledge to support our current and future customer projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with core scientist team to design and build in-house strain engineering capabilities.
- Design, construct and optimize biosynthetic pathways using metabolic engineering and synthetic biology tools.
- Apply knowledge of microbial physiology, biochemistry, and metabolism to improve titers, yields, and productivity of engineered strains.
- Test metabolic and physiological performance of engineered strains.
- Design and execute experiments, analyse data and summarise findings into technical reports.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbial Engineering, Microbial Genetics, Microbiology, Metabolic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines is required.
- 2+ years of relevant (ideally industry) experience in microorganism engineering and protein expression is a must.
- Track of record of state-of-the-art molecular and genetic technologies including cloning, pathway assembly, and chromosomal manipulation in prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganisms.
- Solid understanding of microbial physiology and metabolism, application in metabolic assay development is desirable.
- Experience with strain engineering tools and software for construct design, sequencing, bioinformatics etc.
- Nice to have: experience with high throughput screening automation and/or robotics.
